Technological Knowledge: General Knowledge of Tempered Glass

Nov. 07, 2020

Toughened glass is commonplace in life, and its main component is silica. Now safer and safer toughened glass is used in life. What are the characteristics of tempered glass?

Tempered glass belongs to safety glass. In order to improve the strength of glass, chemical or physical methods are usually used to form compressive stress on the glass surface. When the glass is subjected to external force, the surface stress is first offset, thereby improving the load-bearing capacity and enhancing the glass's own resistance to wind pressure, cold and heat, impact, etc. .

1. Advantages

Safety: When the tempered glass is damaged by an external force, the fragments will become small particles with obtuse angles similar to a honeycomb, which is not easy to cause serious harm to the human body.

High strength: The impact strength of a tempered glass of the same thickness is 3 to 5 times that of ordinary glass, and the bending strength is 3 to 5 times that of ordinary glass.

Thermal stability: Tempered glass has good thermal stability, can withstand a temperature difference of 3 times that of ordinary glass and can withstand a temperature difference of 300°C.

2. Disadvantages

The tempered glass can no longer be cut and processed, and the glass can only be processed to the required shape before tempering, and then tempered. Although the strength of tempered glass is stronger than ordinary glass, tempered glass has the possibility of self-explosion (breaking by itself), while ordinary glass does not have the possibility of self-explosion. There will be unevenness (wind spots) on the surface of the tempered glass, and there will be a slight thickness thinning.

3. Application

Tempered glass is widely used in high-rise building doors and windows, glass curtain walls, indoor partition glass, daylighting ceilings, sightseeing elevator channels, furniture, glass guardrails, etc.

4.3C mark

3C logo is often seen on glass, what does it mean?

The full name of 3C certification is China Compulsory Certification, the English abbreviation CCC. It is a product conformity assessment system implemented by the Chinese government in accordance with laws and regulations to protect consumers' personal safety and national security, strengthen product quality management.

5. Common process classification

White glass: It is ordinary transparent glass.

Ultra-white glass: The clarity is very high. If you wipe it clean, you can say that you can’t tell whether there is glass or not.

Coated glass: The outside can be seen from the inside during the day, and the inside cannot be seen from the outside. Turning on the light indoors at night has the opposite effect, and the thickness of the coating is also different. A thinner one does not have that good effect but does not affect the lighting. A thicker one has a better effect, but it blocks light. The colors are gray, blue, green, etc.

Lowe glass: UV cut, divided into the high transmission and low transmission. The high transmission has the same visual effect as white glass. Low transmission means that both indoors and outdoors are a little dark.

Frosted glass: invisible inside and out, white particles of frosted. Used in the bathroom more in daily life.
